PUPILS at Salford Priors Primary School are getting into the Christmas spirit by putting together boxes of presents for victims of war, poverty and famine in Eastern Europe.

Children from the primary school, aged four to 11, are busy packing items such as scarves, hats, cray-ons, cuddly toys and sweets in shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child.

The 108 pupils have until Sunday, Nove-mber 21 to get their parcels ready for despatch, and hope this year to top last year's total of 70 boxes.

Pat Daly, head teacher of the school, said: "There are really touching things in the boxes such as toothbrushes and toothpaste. The children love packing the boxes and their aim is to be able to send 100 this year."
