A PERSHORE charity shop celebrated its first year of helping terminally ill children with a birthday party.

The Acorns shop in High Street has raised thousands of pounds towards the building of a hospice for young people that is due to open before the end of the year.

Acorns already has hospices in South Birmingham and Walsall and the opening in Worcester will complete the trio.

The hospice will provide both residential and at home service to youngsters with terminal illnesses such as cancer and also offer a range of support to their families.

When it opens, the ten-bed hospice will support 250 children and their families throughout Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

Shop manager Carol Chambers said: "It's been a super first year. People have been so supportive. The shop has a great team of dedicated staff and volunteers and along with the kindness of customers, they have helped to bring a lifeline to families with children who are unlikely to reach adulthood," said Carol.
