WORCESTER City's new signing Jon Holloway hopes to put his day job to good use during his time at St George's Lane.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who joined from Bath City earlier this week, works as a development officer with Second Division outfit Swindon Town, whose manager Andy King was a former team-mate of City boss John Barton in his Everton days.

Holloway now hopes to use his experience with Swindon to help City's newly appointed youth development officer Ray Woods settle into his new role.

Woods was appointed back in March to oversee City's new-look youth programme, in which young players will combine regular training and matches with an educational programme at Worcester College of Technology.

Holloway said: "We work in schools, arrange courses for children and work with disabled groups, that sort of thing.

"Worcester have just set up a similar project, and I am looking to invite Ray down to visit us, see some of the things we do and exchange a few ideas."

Holloway's work will not, however, interfere with playing for City. "It fits in ever so well and they've got good facilities for training etc. so it gives me flexibility to be well prepared.

"I had been doing a spot of coaching while I was playing, which is something I had always wanted to do."

Holloway, who has also had playing spells with Swindon and Gloucester City, believes, on the evidence of what he has seen this season with Bath, that City should have nothing to fear next time around.

He added: "For me any one of the top 10 sides could have gone on and won the league. Margate for me weren't an outstanding side, but they were strong and well-organised.

"Burton played good football but they weren't strong enough, and the next eight sides were all similar.

"Any team which looks to strengthen in the summer will be in with a good shout. It's a good squad here and I am sure, with two or three good signings, it can be a championship squad."

City boss John Barton will be the guest at an open forum organised by the supporters' club on Monday.

The forum will follow the supporters club's annual meeting, starting at 8pm in the social club at St George's Lane. All are welcome.
