BROMSGROVE RFC First XV moved to the top of Midlands Two (West) with an amazing last gasp 22-21 victory against Derby at Finstall Park.

Dean Ball's side were staring defeat in the face at 21-15 with only seconds left last Saturday before a move direct from the kick-off saw Richard Stockholm go over for a try converted by James Lloyd-Jones.

But the frustrated coach, who saw two of his players shown yellow cards and a red card given to the opposition, said the referee should have taken control.

He said: "It was nerve-wracking and also frustrating but a great result and nothing more than we deserved. I don't think I have ever been more frustrated than I was on Saturday with the referee. He didn't get control as early as I think he should have.

"I thought it was going to be all over as soon as they scored their try. At 21-15 my first thoughts were to make sure Dave Clark (captain) controlled his players at the final whistle and then from that they channelled all their aggression and frustration into their rugby."

Bromsgrove travel to Barkers Butts this Saturday.
