KINGSLEY Jones has backed new boy Nigel Redman to be 'a breath of fresh air' at Worcester Rugby Club.

The senior side's skipper, who leads the team at Coventry today, is all in favour of the new RFU England Academy manager who this week settled into his new role at Worcester.

Redman and assistant Graham Smith will start their roles full time next month but Jones is already expecting big things from the new centre of excellence.

"I think it's a great appointment for the club," said Jones. "He will be a breath of fresh air at Sixways, I've no doubt about that.

"He has so much experience at the very top level with England and the British Lions that he is the perfect man to steer the youngsters in the right direction.

"The academy is obviously a major boost for the club and the appointment was always going to be key to the success.

"However, I think they have the right people involved."

The former Wales skipper has already noticed the crop of talent in the under 21s this season and is hoping that they can make the transition into the new RFU elite group.

"You just have to look at the under 21s to know there is great potential here.

"Players such as Dan Cullen and Jon Higgins are on the fringe of the first team while I know great things are expected of Neil Mason and Tom Warren. Gary Trueman has come through this season and Chris Wilkes so it is all very encouraging.

"The good thing here is that the coaches are beginning to pick the youngsters more often so the carrot of first team rugby is always there."
