STEVE Burton has become the 11th player to sign on the dotted line at Kidderminster Harriers for next season after agreeing a two-year contract.

The defender, 21, travelled down from Hull yesterday to put pen to paper and is now set to move closer to the Division Three club.

Burton, likely to be the only specialist left-back on the books, follows keepers John Danby and Danny Lewis, as well as defenders Chris McHale and Abdou Sall, in pledging their futures to Harriers.

They already have Wayne Hatswell, Dean Keates, Adam Murray, Jesper Christiansen, Lee Jenkins and Scott Rickards contracted for next season.

Midfielder Dean Bennett has verbally agreed to extend his stay by two years so the only doubt remains over defensive regular Craig Hinton who has until early June to decide.

There was a two-week wait for Burton to sign but assistant boss Gary Barnett explained: "Steve was just having a look around the area.

"He's been living at home with his parents so this will be a totally new lifestyle for him. He's been down to look at houses around here and it was just a case of him getting things sorted in his mind.

"Steve was brought up the right way defensively and as he gets more and more league games under his belt then hopefully he will start improving on that side.

"He has excellent delivery into the box with crosses, either drilling them in or bending or whipping them in. His distribution's a plus and he's got a big chance now."

Burton, who still only has 12 league starts to his name, joined Harriers on a successful loan last season from hometown club Hull where he graduated through the youth ranks.

He then moved to Aggborough on a free transfer in late March and wrestled the left-back position off Scott Stamps who has since been released.

Burton became one of Jan Molby's main corner takers, laying on two goals for Wayne Hatswell, and earlier scored his first goal at Woking in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Harriers are hoping Hinton will accept the reduced contract they have offered after Bennett signalled his intent to take a pay cut.

Barnett added: "It's one that requires a bit more time and we're very comfortable with that because Craig has given Kidderminster great service."

Meanwhile, Harriers are due to hear the outcome of an FA hearing over allegations they failed to control their players in an incident at Leyton Orient in March.
