A COURT in Worcester heard how two Bromsgrove men were spotted riding their cycles in a "furious" fashion at 18 mph downhill at Holt Fleet from the direction of Ombersley. Shop assistant John Field, from Stoney Hill, and Ronald McGilchrist, an ironmonger from Worcester Road, were each fined 7/6 (37.5p) plus 10/6 (52.5p) costs.

TENDERS for supplies of goods and services at Bromsgrove's workhouse for the next 12 months had been completed.

The ruling board had accepted Mrs Scale's bid to supply 4lb loaves at 4d (1.5p) per loaf, beef, mutton and suet, Mr Lloyd at 6d (2.5p) per lb, large coffins, Mr Bott at 10/6 (52.5p) each, small 5/6 (27.5p) and for shaving and haircuts, Mr Carrington a flat rate of 3/9 (19p) per week.

VET John Batty, of Ombersley Street, Droitwich, was hauled before Spa magistrates charged with stealing instruments worth nearly £4 from his employer John Young, of Bromsgrove.

He told the court they had been lost in the water when he had crossed Shell Ford while on his way to a call.

To applause from the public gallery, magistrates found him not guilty and he left the court with his character unblemished.

THERE was rejoicing in Bournheath, near Bromsgrove, when on Michaelmas Day mains water was turned on in the village for the first time.

A small ceremony was held at Twopenny Cake where Mrs Kidd, wife of the vicar of Catshill under the direction of Mr Shinner, manager of the water company, turned on the tap.

ISAAC Parks, a tramp, would rue the day he attacked Arthur Chandler, the labour master at Bromsgrove Workhouse when he reproached him for refusing to finish his allotted task of breaking stones in return for a meal and a bed.

Magistrates at the town's police court ordered him to do three months' hard labour for the attack in which he bit the end of Chandler's finger, and 14 days for refusing to work.
