ALDERSHOT Town and Forest Green Rovers have joined the race to sign Worcester City's transfer-listed striker Sam Bowen.

Ryman League Premier Division side Aldershot and Nationwide Conference strugglers Forest Green are among several clubs who have enquired after the prolific goalscorer.

But manager John Barton said there have still been no definite offers for the 23-year-old, who was listed following his dismissal in the FA Umbro Trophy defeat at Telford.

He said: "Aldershot are a club that rang up asking what the situation was, but I haven't heard anything subsequently.

"Nothing has been put on the table by anyone. In turning things round personnel-wise, his position is that he is a saleable commodity. We have to try and get the best possible deal we can for the football club."

Bowen has been given 14 days to answer a second charge for the same incident at Telford, for which he could face an additional two-match ban on top of the three games he is already suspended for.

If Bowen departs before the March 31 transfer deadline it will give Barton the chance to bring in fresh faces.

He said: "We are talking to a few players but their situation is dictated by their clubs, although it doesn't stop us doing a little bit of homework in the meantime."

City's fine 1-1 draw at title-chasing Bath City on Saturday lifted them six points clear of the drop zone. But they still dropped a place after rivals Cambridge City won at Tamworth.

Barton added: "We are in a position now where we mustn't let the season die away from us. The response we have had from the dressing room has been excellent since November, but it needs finishing off now."

Barton has given his players a night off from training tonight.

"They have earned their rest and it will give the ones that do a lot of travelling a chance to stay out of their cars," the City boss added.
