The friends of Miss Annie Green, daughter of Mr and Mrs Green, The Prince of Wales, Newtown, will be pleased to hear of the great success which she has already achieved in the musical world. Although only 15 years of age, yet she is announced to take part in the concert on behalf of Father Bernard Vaughan's fund for poor children at the Royal Albert Hall, London, when the vocalists will include Madame Patti. The subject of systematic temperance teaching in schools as a branch of hygiene was introduced by the Rev Somers Cocks of Eastnor. He deplored the fact that England was losing its name as the world's workshop and, looking for a cause, he thought that our children were not properly equipped for the battle of life.

A want of quickness in industrial occupations was produced by the alcohol consumption of the working classes. Ledbury Free Press, November 15, 1904.

Laughter greeted a suggestion that councillors should take it in turns to clean out litter from Colwall bus shelters made half in jest at Wednesday's meeting of Colwall Parish Council. A complaint about the condition of the bus shelters, including a reference to cobwebs in the roofs and sides, was brought before the council. Mr S J Nipe said the shelter at the Green was being regularly cleaned by a volunteer scholar of Ledbury Grammar School, but he would be leaving school soon. Malvern Gazette, November 12, 1954.

The large crowd of citizens present at the Remembrance Day service in the Market Square last Sunday had the rare opportunity of hearing the town band play, in the open air. Their performance, in accompanying the hymns, was excellent and added to the impressiveness of the service. Ledbury Reporter, November 12, 1954.

The visit of the unusual rock music group Motorhead to Malvern Winter Gardens on December 5 is to go ahead as planned. A Winter Gardens spokesman said an apparent double booking of the group on the night had led some rock enthusiasts to question the winter gardens booking. "I can confirm they are definitely coming," he said.

Damage to trees planted in recent years by Ledbury Town Council was described by the amenities committee on Thursday as "heartbreaking". A report prepared by Coun Silvia Robinson, together with tree expert, Dr Coles, revealed that six trees planted in the Recreation Ground and Lawnside Road needed attention. A further two at Lawnside Road had been "torn to bits". Ledbury Reporter, November 15, 1979.
