IT will be the ultimate test of Evesham United's promotion pedigree tomorrow as they clash with league leaders Mangotsfield United in a top-of-the-table clash at Common Road (3pm).

David Busst's in-form side are second in Southern League Division One West, level on points with the free-scoring Bristol outfit but behind on goal difference.

Victory is likely to see the Robins leapfrog Mangotsfield, although Taunton Town, Rothwell Town and Sutton Coldfield are all on 27 points and each will be vying for top spot come the full-time whistle.

Evesham have at least one game in hand on their nearest challengers but wasted a golden opportunity in distancing themselves from the chasing pack in their last game, a 0-0 draw with Thame United.

Grant Pinkney struck the bar and Danny Williams was guilty of missing other gilt-edged chances in a frustrating night at home.

Midfielder Steve Duncan returns from holiday and with a full-strength squad to choose from, Busst believes his side have enough quality to dispose of the leaders.

He said: "We are more than capable of beating sides like Mangotsfield. We have proved over the last few weeks that we can beat those near the top of the league.

"I think we've got the best defensive record and they have got the best scoring record, so something will have to give. I can't see it being a 0-0 draw.

"It's a big game for us. We've got a game in hand and this gives us the chance to put ourselves three points clear of them.

"Mangotsfield have always been the same in that they seem to score plenty of goals but leak them in as well. I'm hoping it will be an open game.

"Our defence hasn't given away much all season and if we can keep a clean sheet at the back, then I'm sure we'll pick up a result because we have enough creative players in the team to cause them trouble."
