Snow White and the Seven Dwarves will be special guests at this year's Christmas extravaganza in Bromyard.

The fairytale favourites will switch on the lights at 5.30pm in The Square, as the climax of a day of festivities on Saturday, November 20.

Sixteen-year-old Amanda Vincent-Perkins, who is appearing in pantomime in Edwyn Ralph, will play Snow White. Local schoolchildren will be the seven dwarves.

Miss Vincent-Perkins, who lives just outside Bromyard, said: "I've appeared in lots of shows in the Bromyard area, so I'm quite well known here. I was really pleased when I was asked to do it. I'm really looking forward to it."

Snow White will be in the town centre throughout the day, joining fellow guest Father Christmas, who will be at his grotto in the Square from 1pm. Swings and roundabouts will also be set up and the Bromyard Wind Band and the Bromyard Choral Society will perform music and carols from 4.30pm onwards.

Jonathan Lester, chairman of organisers Bromyard and District Chamber of Commerce, said: "This year we've a new and improved Santa's grotto, the presents for children will be of a very high quality."

Mr Lester said the switch-on was a special event for Bromyard and the town was very proud of its Christmas lights.

"I really enjoy organising the event," he said. "It's important that everybody is involved in keeping Bromyard shining."

Other organisations joining in the fun include Bromyard support group for St Michael's Hospice, which will be holding a craft fair at the Falcon Hotel from 10am-4pm.

Bromyard and District History Society will host a Christmas fair at the Local History Centre from 2pm to 6.30pm.

People will be asked not to park in The Square on the day.
