I quite agree with Coun Philip Rumney (Your Letters, October 22), it is quite disgraceful that Malvern Town Council has downgraded the mayoralty to 'chairman' status.
We know from the town council's best value performance plan that Malvern is one of "the largest parish councils in the UK".
We also know that most other large town councils have mayors.
Malvern needs the oxygen of publicity to help create interest and inward investment in the town. I would suggest this would be better helped by having a mayor rather than a chairman.
