DEPRIVED of six regular first team members, Welland gave the opportunity to others in their young squad to prove their mettle, resulting in a resounding win in this Worcester & District Saturday Premier Division fixture.

LAMB & FLAG 0, WELLAND ATHLETIC 3

Kitchener and man-of-the-match Jo Taylor dominated the midfield after an initial spell of 15 minutes where Lamb & Flag looked threatening, requiring two quality one-handed saves from Whittal-Williams in Welland's goal.

Then on a breakaway, Brad Green, in only his second game for Welland, beat the defence single-handedly with a shot from the edge of the box. He then went through ten minutes later and with the goal keeper stranded, played the ball back for Chris Broadbent to fire in over the keeper with his left foot to give Welland a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Gardiner and Broadbent continued to open up Flag down the flanks and when Crump and Radnor combined to release Green for his second, Flag seemed to lose heart.

However injuries to Foresters, Kitchener and Gardiner left Welland with only ten men but still this did to prevent Welland's Radnor skimming the bar and opportunities falling to Mike Thackeray and Alan Barnes.

Welland, sponsored by the Kings Head, Upton, have no game tomorrow (Saturday).
