Some time ago I was at a meeting at which a proposal to refurbish Malvern Link Station was discussed. I argued then that it could be a waste of money because when the new road (from Newland to Leigh Sinton Road) was built it would be worth thinking about a new Malvern Link Station at the point where the new road crossed the railway.

I had in mind a station with so much parking it could attract commuters off the roads into Worcester and beyond.

Now the issue should be discussed more widely. There is a proposal to spend a lot of money at Great Malvern Station to create a bus/rail interchange. The money would be better spent on a properly designed facility for buses as well as trains at the new station.

There would be a lot of issues to resolve with such a new station but there is potential for great benefit and I think these issues deserve thought now so that we plan for an environmentally better Malvern of the future.

Of course, Malvern Hills District Council cannot actually bring this into being. All it can do is to argue with those who can and pave the way through the planning process. What is encouraging is that so many people in Malvern, and especially Malvern Link, are demanding a better and more ambitious vision for Malvern's future.
