The M6 motorway is not generally known for its tourist attractions, but a Suckley author hopes to prove that it should be.

Mike Jackson has produced The M6 Sights Guide, which points out places of interest along one of the country's busiest routes.

The 96-page book is a comprehensive guide to 500 sites of interest along the 234-mile road, from storage sheds to monuments and includes the infamous Spaghetti Junction.

Mr Jackson decided to compile the book after he sold all 6,000 copies of his M5 Sights Guide, produced last year.

"When the copies of the M5 guide sold out I realised there was a demand for such a book," he said. "I just had a sense that I wasn't the only person that drives up and down motorways, wondering what I was driving past."

Mr Jackson, who works as a producer on television shows such as Bargain Hunt and Flog It, said he was used to driving along the M6 to visit family in Manchester.

His book contains 200 colour photographs, taken by Mr Jackson and includes information on each sight as well as stories from people living along the motorway.

"It was quite hard work to compile," he said.

"My son drove me up and down the motorway several times, while I studied what was there. Then I went out with a note pad, camera and Ordinance Survey map to explore each section."

Mr Jackson's next project will be the M4, and lastly the M1. The M6 Sights Guide costs £9.99.
