A TWICE-mended gate at Callow End playing fields has been "smashed to smithereens" in a third attack by vandals.

This time the wooden gate will be replaced by one made of galvanised steel, at a cost of £75.99 to Powick Parish Council.

Chairman Andy Lamb questioned whether there was any point in replacing it at all.

"I have a natural disinclination to keep paying for the same thing again and again," he said.

Les Davis said the gate was necessary to keep vehicles off the field at night.

"It's the third time it has been broken and it has been smashed to smithereens this time," he said.

He also reminded members that the Callow End sports pavilion still had no heating in two changing rooms and the referee's room.

"We promised to update the pavilion during this financial year," he said.

Members agreed to spend £300 on radiators for the three unheated rooms.
