MUSICIANS with a passion for poetry are hoping to take the music industry by storm with their latest band.

Bass player, Steve Breen, and guitarist and singer, Rob Ledger, have played together on-and-off for the last 12 years, but only joined forces with 19-year-old drummer, Jon Teuwen, to form Outsider last year.

Since then, the band, whose influences include The Smiths, The Who, Pink Floyd and Muse - as well as the less conventional Sylvia Plath, Franz Kafka and Albert Camus - have recorded their first EP 50 Minutes and played a string of well-received gigs.

Now they are looking forward performing future gigs in cities including Bristol, Sheffield and Birmingham and at Redwoods in Kidderminster on Sunday, December 19.

Twenty-eight-year Mr Breen, who is an electrician, played in the bands Fused and Blueliner with Mr Ledger. He described Outsider's music as "modern Indie".

Ledger, a pharmacist, is also a former member of Kidderminster band, The Amateurs, who featured in the Shuttle/Times and News last week.

"We're just getting back on the scene now and we want people to know about it.

"We have also had some good reviews from various magazines," Mr Breen said.

"The EP had a great response and everywhere we've played we've been asked to go back again."

He added: "I think we're quite a cultured band - we're modern and arty in the way we write and try to be a bit more cultural in our lyrics."

A demo of theirmusic is also available at their website www.out-sider.co.uk and the band is available for concerts in the area.
