A Salford Priors resident is so fed up with workers constantly digging up a road he has asked for a meeting with those responsible for maintaining it.

Douglas Wathen wrote to Warwickshire County Council at the end of last month asking for a meeting to find out who is responsible for roadworks on School Road.

He complained that the digging up of the road left holes of different lengths and that when travelling west down School Road, a traffic calming chicane on the left hand side was hazardous because it was on a bend and required split second timing to negotiate it.

The 75-year-old, who has lived in Salford Priors for 40 years, also said there is no kerb stone on the left hand side of the road, only mud and pot holes dangerous to pedestrians.

Mr Wathen said: "School Road has always been like this. For one reason or another the council is constantly digging it up and putting it back again. It's all patchwork, mud and pot holes. If you go down School Road it's a mess.

"The workmen are always doing something down there. They spend money patching up and the road and it's as bad as ever. It's a waste of money, it could have been spent on tidying it and widening it," he added.

"What they need to do is put down proper kerbs and tidy it up generally."

Traffic engineer for the county council Michael Lal said in general, public utility companies dug up the road and it was not just the county council.

Roger Evans, senior traffic engineer for Warwickshire County Council, said the chicane on the left hand side of School Road was put in to help reduce the speed limit from 40 to 30mph.

He said: "The position was agreed with the police and Salford Priors Parish Council."
