Kings Heath Ladies 2 Tenbury Ladies 3

AFTER taking a three-goal lead, Tenbury were forced to defend in the latter stages of the game, after the home team struck back with two goals in quick succession.

Tenbury started well and took the lead from the first penalty corner of the game. Aby Thomas scored at the second attempt after seeing her initial effort well saved. With Rachel Croxton and Vicky Riley controlling the midfield, and Thomas causing havoc down the right wing, it was not surprising that they extended the lead to three with goals either side of the break.

The home keeper was in inspired form, but could not prevent Riley from scoring the second when she shot home after exchanging passes with Thomas at another penalty corner. Croxton got the third when she snaked past a couple of defenders and netted with a slick shot past the oncoming keeper.

The home side finished strongly and set up a grandstand finish when they reduced the deficit to one goal with a couple of quick strikes. Tenbury defended solidly in the closing stages to complete a fine team performance with a much-needed win. Thomas was player-of-the-match.
