THEY didn't have to travel far but members of an Evesham-based Kung Fu club ensured their journey to the Working Men's Club was a memorable one.

The Briar Close Business Park fighters competed in a national tournament when they claimed five first place finishes and a runner-up spot at the Merstow Green venue.

Affiliated to the UKCBA, the Dooksau Kung Fu squad proved more than match for their World Kick Boxing Association Amateur Nationals that provided opponents from Bristol, Coventry, Derby and Wales.

Proud team coach Rich Edwards said: "I am so pleased with the team. They really showed that our local lads could hold their own against good teams from England Wales and they recorded some decisive victories."

Some of the fighters taking the plaudits at the Workies were Chris Green, William Ford, Andy Bowen, Will Bamford, Kevin and Ian Hickman.

The club has been based in the town for many years and its latest success as prompted the coach to appeal for more members.

"It would be great if we could give our membership a boost on the back of this latest success," he admitted. "I feel sure that any prospective new members will get a real kick out of the sport!"
