PERSHORE Town Football Club was thrown into more turmoil on Monday night when director of football Richard Anson resigned.

"My decision has nothing to do with anyone or anything untoward at the club, although I believe that whoever takes the job on, in whatever role, has a massive job on their hands," Anson, who joined the struggling Midland Combination club earlier this season.

Anson, who left a similar position at Malvern Town during the summer, took over team affairs when Nigel Russell left King George's last month but he has now decided to quit the club altogether.

"Frankly, the club has been in decline for too long and the seeds of that decline were sown several years ago and not now," Anson recognised.

"Perhaps I didn't fully appreciate that or the size of the task when I took it on three months ago and I think people were expecting too much."
