AS a concerned local resident, I listened with interest to a recent item on Hereford and Worcester Radio concerning the problems associated with the former fruit and vegetable market site in Hylton Road.

The item was concerned with the condition of the site and the safety problems encountered by the Fire Service when called, from time to time, to deal with fires in the buildings that remain there.

I have noticed on a daily basis that a number of vehicles are parked on the pavement in this part of Hylton Road. There would seem to be a demand for additional car parking spaces on the western side of the river for both shoppers and commuters.

Temporary

It occurs to me that it might be appropriate to negotiate a temporary planning permission for a car park on the site.

A cleared site in this location would accommodate 100-200 car parking spaces, which, I suggest, could generate an income such as to fund demolition of the buildings and clearance of the land, together with some form of landscaping, albeit of a temporary nature.

In the present climate of severe restraint in local government expenditure, I would have thought that additional car parking spaces on the western side of the river, at no expense to the council, must be a bonus for the city.
