AN Evesham mother says she is at her wits end after two years of living next to a building site.

Abi Ealey who lives in Common Road says redevelopment work in the area is making her life a nightmare.

"Roads are often closed and even when they are not blocked they are full of pot holes and dirty. There is the constant noise and danger from plant and machinery," said young mother Abi.

"Getting around this area with a 16 month old baby in a push chair is terrible. There is no consideration and our rates stay the same. The roads are full of dirt and we are being treated like dirt. It is as if we just don't matter," said the 32-year-old who has lived in Common Road for the past five years.

On the day the Journal spoke to Abi, she had been "trapped" in the house for two hours after constructors had struck a gas main: "I could not get to work or take Isabella to the nursery.

"Enough is enough and people around here are sick and tired and are being made ill by the stress of it all."

"When I was pregnant we had to make special arrangements for the ambulance to get to me because of the road closures and when there was a fire in the scrap yard the fire engine could not get through. This is not just inconvenient it is dangerous."

She said residents had been told that the development including building on the site of the Evesham Town Football ground was likely to last for at least another two years.

Anne-Marie Dorroch from Wychavon District Council said there had been no recent complaints about work in the area.

"If the developers are doing anything in breech of the planning conditions we want to know and will investigate."

Paul Jewell, managing director of KingsOak South Midlands said: " We are very sorry to hear that the residents of Common Road are distressed by the building work.

"We are working hard to ensure the area around the site is kept clean but in light of these concerns we will be investigating the situation further.
