IN order to set the record straight I assure Mrs Gordon, whose letter appeared in last week's issue, that the Health Concern administration did consult prior to the introduction of recycling to Wyre Forest households.

Every household within the district received a questionnaire seeking opinions on major issues - including waste collection and recycling.

In order to meet Government targets of increasing recycling and reducing waste, the council had to introduce changes to its services or pay penalties. These changes were to be, in the main, funded by Council Tax payers, hence the decision to consult them.

Expected response to such a postal consultation exercise was 10-12 per cent, but Wyre Forest residents broke many records with a 28 per cent response rate. And 77.5 per cent of respondents chose the option of a forthnightly wheelie bin collection and weekly recycling collection.

Thus the Health Concern administration were able to introduce the changed service knowing that this was in keeping with the wishes of those who responded to what was the largest consultation process ever undertaken in Wyre Forest.

In addition to the questionnaire, the administration also held roadshows at venues throughout Wyre Forest - bringing information and consultation to all the centres of population.
