A mother who was left a widow by a tragic lorry collision near Pershore will soon be taking her three children on a dream holiday thanks to kind-hearted regulars at a Cotswold pub.

Drinkers at The Bell Inn, Moreton raised £1,800 so Becky Summerill and her children - Luke, seven, Joshua, five and Lauren, four - could go to Disney Land for a welcome treat.

A fund-raising evening was held at the High Street pub where Nick Summerill, aged 37, was a regular for several years and also the pub's handyman.

He was driving one of two lorries that were destroyed in a head-on collision on the A44, in The Vale of Evesham, in June this year.

Dozens of people turned out for the evening that featured a raffle, an auction and a performance by Moreton band, The Liars Club.

Mrs Summerill, of Wellington Road, thanked everyone for being so generous on Saturday, October 30.

"It meant so much to us after everything we have been through," she said. "I know that my three young children, Luke, Josh and Lauren, will have the holiday of a lifetime."

The fund-raising evening was organised by Keith and Pamela Pendry, The Bell's landlord and landlady. Mr Pendry said: "Nick was well-respected locally and people wanted to do something for the kids in his memory. The idea was mooted by locals and, at the end, very well supported by them.

"We expected to raise £1,000 but we got nearer £2,000."

He added that the final sum could exceed £2,000 and has asked for any further donations to be dropped off at The Bell.

An inquest into Mr Summerill's death, opened by Worcestershire coroner Victor Round on June 8, was adjourned to a date to be arranged.

The driver of the other lorry, a man from Liverpool, also died in the crash near Pershore.
