ALMOST £400 worth of fishing tackle was taken in a burglary in Kidderminster.

Police said an unsecured shed in the back garden of a house in the town's Broadwaters area was broken into between midnight and 9am on Monday.

The thieves' haul included two fishing bags, each worth £45. One was green with grey shoulder straps and had the manufacturer's name, Wychwood, on it. The other was made by Shakes-peare and is described as fawn with a brown leather shoulder strap.

Also taken was a red fishing reel worth £50 and a black rod and fawn screw-top metal case which, together, were worth £250.

Crime prevention manager, PC Ian White, advised householders to ensure their sheds were kept locked.

Among measures to improve security are strengthening hin-ges, using heavy duty padlocks and reinforcing the door frame with a steel plate. Mesh or bars could be placed inside windows and battery-powered alarms installed.
