DELIGHTED young fund-raiser Brianna Tutin was weighed down with Christmas goodies - thanks to a generous donation from Webbs of Wychbold garden centre.

The youngster is one of the first to join the new St Richard's Hospice Young Fund-raisers group, run by the charity's community fund-raiser Alison Weston.

Brianna and Alison gratefully accepted the gifts of children's toys and other goodies worth £1,000, which they will use to raise funds for the hospice, in Rose Hill, Worcester.

"We sell many thousands of Christmas gifts each year and lots of children will be coming soon to see our Santa in Space Christmas Grotto," said Webbs' director, Marigold Webb.

"Our customers are always important to us but we also wanted to help a charity close to home.

"We are very pleased to support St Richard's and the vital work they do caring for patients and families coping with cancer and other life-limiting illness.

"We are adopting St Richard's as our Charity of the Year for 2005, and are hoping all our staff and customers will give us their support and help us give something back to our local hospice charity."

Grateful

St Richard's director of fund-raising Marilyn Peachey, added: "We are enormously grateful to Webbs of Wychbold for their support, particularly in this special year, when we are appealing for funds to help build a new £5.25m hospice in Worcester.

"All the money raised will help us build the new hospice combining all our current services with 15 desperately needed specialist hospice beds - a need we cannot yet meet here in South Worcestershire."

The first meeting of the St Richard's Young Fund-raisers group, for eight to 16 year olds, will take place on Wednesday, December 1, at Whitford Hall and Dodderhill School in Droitwich, and anyone interested can contact Ms Weston on 01905 763963.

Webbs' Christmas grotto will be open on weekends from noon to 4pm, from Saturday, November 13, until Sunday, December 19, and Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm, from November 18, until December 2 and also on Christmas Eve from noon to 3.30pm.
