FRESH from his debut victory for the county chess first team, Kidderminster Chess Club's Terry Pountney comfortably drew his game on board four when he played for Worc-estershire's under-100 graded team against Staffordshire, at Brewood.
Bill Pugh's tremendous effort on top board for Worcester-shire proved fruitless, as the rigours of a four-hour session took their toll and he wilted under the pressure of a quick play finish.
Pugh's opponent sensed a slight advantage entering the end-game and went in for the kill.
Unfortunately Worcest-ershire were unable to build on their 10-2 annihilation of Warwickshire, and were beaten 7-5.
