IT'S all downhill for Stourport rider David List from now on after he won a Midlands Super Series downhill mountain-biking title in only his second year in the sport.

The 26-year-old raced ahead of dozens of competitors to triumph in the senior category of the seven-race championships.

With the scoring calculated on each rider's best five races, his three wins and two runners up spots were enough to clinch the trophy.

"This is only my second year doing it," said List.

"I finished second last year and this time I've been a lot more consistent so I'm delighted to have gone one better."

List's success means that he will be promoted to the "expert" category when the winter season begins in January.

By then he hopes to be competing on a new £3,000 GT mountain bike donated by his sponsor, Tim Grainger of Stourport Specialist Cycles.

Despite having to run the final lap due to a broken frame, Stourport Specialist Cycles team rider Pete Yates is off to a flying start in his first season in the seniors category in the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League.

He is currently lying 10th overall and first in the Under-23s, having finished eighth on Sunday in round five of the league, at Mythe Farm, Atherstone.

Mick Gray raced to second place in his veterans age group in round five of the West Midlands cyclo-cross league on Sunday.

The Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club rider came third in his age group the previous week in round four, on another tough hilly and muddy course at Cosford Farm, Rugby.

Elliott Dinsdale raced strongly in round four of the seniors competition, finishing 32nd, which rose him to 15th place overall in the league standings.

Joe Rowe will represent the district in round six at Hagley Park, Rugeley, in preparation for the Midlands Regional Cyclo-Cross Championships at Darley Moor on December 5, and the national championships at Abergavenny in January.

The club's annual meeting was held at Stourport Sports Centre. Alf Sparkes was elected president, taking over from Bill Jones, and Mike Nicol was vote Clubman of the Year in recognition for his hard work as chairman and strong performances this year, having ridden his best 25-mile time for 30 years.

Chris Pool will take over as chairman for the coming year.
