STOURPORT were on the wrong end of a 6-1 scoreline as Bath Buccaneers showed why they head up hockey's National League Premier Two.

The heavy home defeat leaves sorry Stourport propping up the table. Phil Lashford's men started confidently and put the away team under the cosh in the first 10 minutes, committing several players forward.

Bath absorbed the pressure and were able to break quickly with Chris Cunningham opening the scoring on 10 minutes from a well struck shot from the top of the 'D'.

Stourport created chan-ces of their own but found the Bath 'keeper in fine form, making excellent saves from Lashford, Mark Moss and Mark Edwards.

With the majority of possession, Stourport were caught over committing again and 'keeper Stu Hendy found himself exposed for a second time as Bath struck a second on 12 minutes through Tim Davenport.

Stourport's lesson in clinical finishing was continued as Bath's forwards counter attacked at pace with Jon Holt blasting a reverse stick shot past Hendy on 23 minutes.

Stourport grabbed a goal back through Marc Ed-wards' first national league goal, sliding the ball past the 'keeper after good work from Ben Everett-Li after half time.

The next goal was likely to decide the rest of the match, Bath hit the post from a short corner while Edwards, Dave Westhead and Mark Harradine all went close for the home side.

In the 50th minute Bath broke again with Richard Bendry scoring a well-worked goal to finish Stourport off.

With Stourport pressing forward, the defence was breached twice in the last ten minutes to make the final score 6-1 and put Stourport back at the foot of the table.

Although they thought the scoreline was slightly harsh on them, Stourport must bid to bounce back when they travel to mid-table Old Georgians on Saturday.
