PEOPLE and organisations will come together across Wyre Forest on Sunday for moving ceremonies in remembrance of the tragic loss of life during two world wars.

Parades, the laying of wreaths and church services will all be taking place, with each area marking the sombre occasion in its own individual way, with bands and buglers participating.

Cleobury Mortimer chooses to characterise its proceedings by the ceremonial reading aloud of all the names which appear on the War Memorial with the last name being read out at the very moment the clock on nearby St Mary's church strikes 11am.

The moving moment is further heightened with The Last Post, played by David Taylor, before the silence is observed.

Cleobury's parade, led by the Muller Cleobury Mortimer Brass Band, assembles at 10.30am in the main car park in Childe Road for a 10.50am set-off. The Remembrance Service this year will be held in the parish hall in Lower Street immediately after the 11am silence.

In Kidderminster, the parade assembly point will be in the New Road car park at 10.15am, ready to move off at 10.30am.

It will travel along New Road, Bridge Street, Oxford Street, Vicar Street, Bull Ring and Lower Mill Street, to St Mary's Ringway, where a short service will take place at the War Memorial outside St Mary's Church at 10.55am. This will be followed by a Remembrance Sunday Service in the parish church. The return to New Road will take the route in reverse.

Time for golden silence

TODAY is Armistice Day and Councillor Stephen Clee, the leader of Wyre Forest District Council, has stressed the importance of observing the national Royal British Legion two-minute silence.

Councillor Clee said: "By observing the two-minute silence, it gives us time to remember those who have served their country and the major impact war has on lives and livelihoods."

He added staff and councillors at the council would be taking part in the two-minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month - which the Royal British Legion has been campaigning for nationally since 1995.
