POLICE have issued an appeal for information about a car that they believe was involved in the security alert in the city centre on Tuesday.
A man and a woman left in the red four-door Ford Fiesta parked in the bus bay beside the Cathedral roundabout, in Worcester city centre.
The man had placed the red shopping bag at the base of the Elgar Statue during the afternoon.
There was a second woman in the group, but she did not climb into the car.
"The male who carried the suspect item to the statue, and one of the two females with him left in the Fiesta, which was parked for a short time in the nearby bus-stop," said Det Insp Dave Bartlett.
He added extra precautions had been put in place for today's city centre Remembrance Day services.
Police are continuing to ask for the public's help in identifying those responsible for placing the item.
The alert caused traffic chaos, and shoppers were evacuated from stores.
"We remain keen to hear from members of the public who saw anyone behaving suspiciously up to and just after the time that the suspect item - a red carrier bag, with a note attached - was discovered at 2.18pm," added Mr Bartlett.
Anyone with information is asked to call 08457 444 888, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
