HOSPITALS' chief John Rostill has made his second apology in less than a week to county families who have suffered the loss of their babies.

Mr Rostill was forced to apologise to dis-traught families on Tuesday after the Even-ing News was inundated with calls from women who claimed they had "horrific" experiences at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Readers' calls came af-ter the Evening News revealed the harrowing plight of Kidderminster couple Nadia and Ste-ven Jones.

They claimed their lit-tle boy Harry died at the hospital because of neglect, and their story coincided with another damning report into county maternity serv-ices published on Mon-day.

Mr Rostill today said: "We appreciate this must be a terrible time for the families in-volved, as they relive their tragedies all over again.

"We are trying to do everything we can to ease their pain.

"We realise that any-one who loses a baby in any circumstances feels the most profound sor-row and loss.

"We have to do every-thing in our power to make sure that our standards of patient care, clinical guidelines, training and facilities combine to keep mums-to-be and their babies as safe as possible.

"In the last year taken positive steps to im-prove maternity serv-ices at all our hospitals.

"Before any decision can be made on the fu-ture of the Birth Centre, I have to be sure that we have dealt with any avoidable risks to the women who may choose to give birth there and implemented all the re-port's recommenda-tions."
