"RESERVED" Alvechurch folk have so far put forward only three nominees for the Young Achievers Award.
Parish Councillor Pete Smith said he was disappointed but far from shocked at the apparent lack of interest in the award.
"This is a typical case of British 'reserve' coming into play," he said.
"We are reluctant to let others know of our achievements for fear they'll think we're showing off."
Mr Smith, whose work involves youth and amenities in the area, put forward the proposal for a Young Achievers Award earlier this year to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of youngsters in the parish.
Young people can be nominated for a variety of reasons, including academic achievement, bravery, overcoming disabilities or sporting accomplishments.
Mr Smith said: "Time and again we hear about others' success through friends and family but we want people's efforts to be made known publicly so they are appreciated by the community."
Young people can be nominated for the award by parents, friends and teachers.
Nomination forms are available from Alvechurch Parish Council office, the library and schools and the closing date is December 1.
