A NEW invention by a Malvern firm could save thousands of children from the agony of trapped fingers.

Finger Savers Ltd, based in Upper Welland Road, has devised a door guard to save youngsters from unnecessary pain.

"Everyone knows a child who has trapped his or her fingers in a door," said Paul Wright, who co-owns the company with his business partner, Patrick Catherall.

"Trapping fingers in a door can be extremely dangerous and distressing and in some cases means more than just a bruise - it can lead to lasting problems.

"Yet the problem, until now, has gone largely overlooked by schools and other establishments with public access."

It is also a Health and Safety requirement that all buildings with public access, in particular schools and hotels, assess the risk.

"In a world that is so health and safety-conscious, I find it amazing no one has thought of this before," added Mr Wright.

"Patrick and I saw the opportunity in the market and we launched the firm about a month ago.

"It is too early to say how successful it is going to be, but we believe there is a need for Finger Savers, all we need now is for people to recognise that need."

Finger Savers can be fitted to most doors and allows the door to be opened to a full 180 degrees.

Prices start at around £30 for each door, including fitting. For more information call Paul Wright on 07810 138266.
