AN Alcester woman will be walking the streets of New York this weekend to raise money for charity.
Sally Coombs, 44, of Newport Drive, is taking part in the half marathon Walk New York challenge organised by The Children's Society and has already raised nearly £2,000.
Mother of three Mrs Coombs said she chose the charity because of the work it does for young people, especially those who are in trouble.
"I decided in May to do it. I wanted to do something that I could look back on and think I'd done something worthwhile, and this helps children who aren't as lucky as ours and need support."
She will meet her 49 walking companions at Heathrow on Friday morning, and on Saturday will do the 13 mile walk leaving Sunday to see the sights and return home on Monday.
As well as local sponsorship Mrs Coombs and her husband, Steve, asked for donations to the fund instead of presents when they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary earlier this year and her employer, the Halifax building society, has also pledged support.
Anyone able to contribute should call Mrs Coombs on 01789 765748.
Sally prepares to for her US challenge.
