I have had to put pen to paper and reply to E Baylis. I contracted polio when I was a small girl, which left me with a left leg that was useless.

Later on when an operation went wrong with a right leg, that was also useless.

I have worked all of my life and have been at the same firm for 34 years, only having time off for operations.

I have spent my life wearing a calliper, unable to run for a bus, not able to play games, take part in sports and things others take for granted.

I do not get everything for nothing. I pay a deposit for my car, which can be £1,000 upwards, I pay £400 for hand controls and my mobility allowance of £150-plus per month is taken to cover the rest.

I didn't ask to be disabled, it was just fate. I don't enjoy not being able to walk properly without crutches, I don't like not being able to shop so my husband does it for me, I don't love being trussed up every day in a metal contraption, just so I can drag my leg around so I can get to work at the factory.
