I FEEL I must reply to the correspondents who have written excusing their behaviour for abusing disabled persons parking bays.

There can be no excuse for such abuse. I am a wheelchair user and my biggest, yes I mean my biggest, problem is finding a disabled bay to park in, in order that I might go about my life as is expected by able-bodied people.

There is no excuse for any able-bodied person to park in a disabled bay. It is wrong, immoral and downright selfish - and selfishness is not a disability.

This applies to people misusing blue badges or people who think that two wrongs make a right - ie, he does it, so why shouldn't I?

To R Williams (letters, November 3) I say the vast majority who abuse disabled bays are able-bodied people who are downright selfish and lazy and who do not have access to blue badges.

Yes, there are those whose families misuse blue badges but you must understand not all disabilities are as obvious as mine. It is possible to run with terminal cancer!

Any disabled person who allows their badge to be used in such a fashion knows full well they are in danger of losing the concession.

I suggest R Williams takes the number of the badge and complains to the issuing authority if he/she believes that abuse is taking place, but don't take up a space that you are not entitled to use as this deprives the genuine user of their access rights.

If everyone behaved in an unselfish manner and had some realisation of the problems caused by abuse of disabled bays, maybe the ordinary driver would think again.
