A STAR of the silver screen will be the centrepiece of a new Redditch exhibition charting the history of aspects of costume design.

The display - Beads, Buttons and Bows - at Forge Mill Museum features the taffeta dress worn by Nicole Kidman in the Oscar-winning film Portrait of a Lady.

The exhibition, open until the end of the month, also features the work and collection of the Worcestershire Beaders' Society and artefacts it has collected.

A spokesman said: "The dress is a beautiful dark green silk taffeta gown which is a wonderful example of an Edwardian full length gown, with black buttons detailing and floral mother of pearl inlays."

Also on display is the work of George Hook of Birmingham, the last remaining pearl button maker in the country, and a collection of Lionel Nicholls buttons designed for the top London fashion houses.
