THERE will be many services in and around Redditch to mark Remembrance Day this year and organisers are hoping for a good turnout from the public.

Tomorrow, on Armistice Day itself, Royal British Legion members will gather with their standards and colours for a silent tribute in the Kingfisher Centre at 11am.

The main service of remembrance will then take place on Sunday, when members of the Legion and other uniformed organisations march from the legion's club in Easemore Road at 10.30am.

Their route will take them along Archer Road and Queen Street to the town hall, where Redditch Mayor Jack Cookson will take the salute at about 10.35am.

The parade will then move up to St Stephen's Church and gather around the war memorial for a two minutes' silence, The Last Post and wreath-laying ceremony. A service will then take place in the church until noon.

After the service, the parade will march back to the legion club down Easemore Road.

Meanwhile, legion members and cadets will be selling poppies in the town centre from tomorrow until the weekend.

Sambourne will also hold its remembrance service tomorrow starting at 10.45am at the memorial in Church Green.

Wreath layer and former RAF man Alan Harrison said: "It's unusual this year because the four of us involved in the service all went to school together during the war years.

"Rex Johnson is organising it, Reverend Jim Symonds will take the service, Clive Skinner will play the Last Post and I will lay the wreath.

"It's funny it's just happened that way this year."

Parish council chairman Chris Clews will also lay a wreath on behalf of the parish council.

Other services of remembrance will take place on Sunday at Studley, Astwood Bank, Alvechurch, Wythall and Cookhill.
