IT may have been six years since The Verve said goodbye to the studio with lead singer Richard Ashcroft (the one with all the talent) deciding to go solo. But those clever record industry people have struck gold and the tills will be ringing again this Christmas.

This Is Music: The Singles is exactly what it says, except for two new tracks recorded while the band played around with the last album they released - Urban Hymns.

When you talk about great music in the late 90s you can't miss out Wigan's The Verve, who shook listeners into life with Bitter Sweet Symphony and the chilling The Drugs Don't Work.

However, listeners who bought the Urban Hymns album and then forgot about the band completely (including me) will be delighted to know that the Verve's earlier work - 1993's A Storm in Heaven and 1995's A Northern Soul are as good and if not better.

Add that to the two previously unreleased songs Monte Carlo and This Could Be My Moment, which aren't bad, then you have the perfect gift for Christmas!

This Is Music: The Singles was released in conjunction with a DVD featuring all the bands music videos and is simply a must have for Verve fans.
