Any DVD which holds within it 90 minutes of anything broadcast on ITV is almost certainly going to be an exercise in pain to watch.

Mr Bean is of course no exception, particularly as we see Rowan Atkinson, one of Britain's finest comic actors, debase himself almost totally without excuse for a series of weak visual jokes.

So essentially it's not very good, unless of course you like weak visual jokes, in which case you are likely to be a young child and can therefore be excused.

It must also be said that this particular DVD is not great value for money either.

A paltry three episodes, including the very first, a few extras and an animated episode.

That's 96 minutes in total - poor considering they could easily have fitted two or three more episodes on the disc.

Oh, but hold on, Christmas is around the corner - that wonderful time of the year synonymous with overindulgent consumerism, of which this expensive cash-in will no doubt play its part.

It might be a nice gift for someone you don't like.
