A SUPER sleuth is needed to help solve the mystery of Droitwich Spa's missing Christmas lights.

The brand new set of lights, which adorned the tree in Victoria Square last festive season, has gone awry.

Now, members of the Droitwich Association for Retail, Tourism and Services (DARTS) are calling on readers of this newspaper to help them solve the mystery of where they have gone.

Terry Spencer, town councillor and long-serving member of DARTS explained the lights were put up by the association last Christmas.

They were some of a new stock of lights DARTS shelled out on to help Droitwich sparkle.

He said after Christmas they were not taken down and continued to illuminate the tree for some time before they suddenly disappeared. He said no-one knows who took the lights down and where they are now.

"We have a number of suspects but we are hoping the people of Droitwich will be able to help solve this mystery. But at the moment nobody seems to be able to throw any light on it," said Cllr Spencer.

DARTS are planning for this year's big switch on which will be performed by Coronation Street star Susie Blake on December 3 at 5pm.

"This year we are hoping to extend the lights into Ombersley Street," he added.

Cllr Spencer said that anyone who can recall seeing these lights being taken down should call him on 01905 794447 or DARTS chairman Richard Brighton on 01905 775395.
