WORK has begun to repair a much-loved windmill at Bromsgrove's main tourist attraction.
The 19th century windmill, rescued from Danzey Green, Warwickshire, and re-constructed at Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings in Stoke Heath back in 1969, had its huge sails removed yesterday (Tuesday).
Repair work, costing thousands of pounds, is now being carried out by Chase Norton Construction. The work is set to last throughout the close season, until next summer.
Major maintenance will be done to the stocks, which hold the sail arms in place, as well as general maintenance to the rest of the windmill, including the stairwell.
A museum spokesman said: "It is fantastic the work is being carried out. The windmill has lasted longer than we thought it would. We now hope that with the maintenance work it will last for many years to come."
