FLY-HALF Matt Birch is set to be available for Bromsgrove Rugby Club's difficult trip away at Scunthorpe on Saturday (2.30pm).

The indispensable kicker is set to make the long trip up north after his wife gave birth to a baby girl last week.

His absence would have been a blow for the newly-promoted side in the Midlands Di-vision One after he inspired them to victory against Longton last month.

Ross Baxter is also expected to make the top-five clash after his wife gave birth also.

Coach Dean Ball said: "There was a chance that Matt and Ross may not make it, but they can.

"Matt's very important to us, the luck has been with us."

Dan Ott, Paul Meadows and Dave Wilkinson will not make Saturday's game because of work commitments.

Ball has Dan Malin and Ben Eason at his disposal.

After a free weekend Bromsgrove are eager to get back to winning ways in the league.

Ball said: "Our main aim is to stay in this league.

"If we secure that early enough then I want us to be a solid side at this level."

The coach also urged his side to improve on the eight victories the Boars recorded the last time they were in the Midlands Division One.

He said: "If we could win nine games in this division then we'd be one of the club's best teams in their history."
