Midlands Three West (South)

DROITWICH'S relegation fears grew larger after a moral sapping loss to their fellow basement battlers on Saturday.

Winless Spa remain rooted at the bottom of the table after they lost to the side above them.

Droitwich went into the game welcoming back winger Jamie Faulkener, centre Tommy Childs and prop Jonathan Watkins.

It was Spa who applied the early pressure with the forward pack making good ground in the early stages.

However, a flowing move saw Droitwich's opponents grab a converted try

Captain Matt Blackmore replied with a penalty.

Phil Horton then wasted a chance to put Droitwich ahead.

Chris Hooper kicked forward but Horton knocked the ball over the try line.

Veteran Ade Spencer was then judged to be held up over the line by the referee after he had crashed through.

But their opponents hit back with a penalty and a converted touch down to take a 17-3 lead by half-time.

Droitwich came out fighting after the break, but they could not contain their confident relegation rivals.

Two penalties and a brace of tries ensured Spa's seventh defeat in the league.

Director of coaching Julian Bailey said: "We just didn't get out of the blocks as quick as Bedworth did and they took advantage.

"This was a game we were hoping to get something out of, but we must keep on battling.

"It's alway a blow to your confidence when you lose to your closest rivals, but it's not over yet."

l Droitwich under-7s edged Chaddesley Corbett 25-20 on Sunday.

Angus Thomas (2), EleanorBurkes, Rhys Samuel and Matthew Sowden touched down.

In the second game Michael Rolfe, Jack Weston, Sowden and Thomas scored for Droitwich in what was a deserved 20-15 victory.
