FOOT-TAPPING show 42nd Street is Redditch Operatic Society's next production at the Palace Theatre.

The rags-to-riches tale concerns young chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, played by Susan Tudbury, plucked from obscurity to star in Broadway show Pretty Lady after fading star Dorothy, portrayed by Julie Keeley, breaks her leg. Tony Lacey takes on the role of Julian Marsh with Mark Williams as Billy Lawlor.

Famous musical numbers featured include We're in the Money, Lullaby of Broadway and 42nd Street.

Rehearsals have gone well, with dancing skills to the fore, worked on with choreographer Val Archer.

Spokesman Marcus Bridger said: "This has been a happy show to work on and the joy and enthusiasm has percolated throughout all our members.

"This is highlighted in the opening with 24 tappers giving their all."

He added: "The spectacular show will be our biggest ever, with fabulous costumes, stylish scenery, large company and a full orchestra."

Suitable for the whole family, 42nd Street runs Tuesday to Saturday, November 16-20, with performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets, costing £8.50-10, are available from the box office on 65203.
