Redditch United 2
Merthyr Tydfil 1
Redditch United captain Mark Taylor returned to action in a Reds shirt as they the Valleymen took on Merthyr Tydfil in the first round of the FA Trophy.
Month-long loan signing Rory May opened the scoring for Redditch on 21 minutes before The Martyrs equalised through Gary Sheppard early on in the second half.
But May's second put pay to any Merthyr revival and saw Redditch safely into round two.
United will be travelling to Unibond Premier League outfit Wakefield-Emley on Saturday, November 27, in the second round.
Emley beat Farsley Celtic 2-1 in the first round but sit midtable in their league.
Emley have already lost 10 times this season in the Unibond Premier and conceded the most goals - 40 so far.
The winner of tie will net £3,000.
