A REDDITCH fundraiser, who has worked for a childcare charity for more than nine years, is now working for Cancer Research UK to help raise vital funds for the community.

Sue Medcalf, 49, joined Cancer Research UK 10 weeks ago and will be working with the charity's committees and supporters from across Worcestershire.

She hopes her work will enable even more people diagnosed with cancer to hear the words 'all clear'.

Mrs Medcalf said: "I'm very excited to be joining such a worthwhile organisation. One in three of us will develop cancer at some point in our lives, therefore it's vital research into cancer continues so more and more people receive the all clear message.

"There's every reason to be optimistic about the future, as mortality rates have decreased by 15 per cent in the last 10 years. Seventy per cent of all children's cancers are now being treated successfully every year.

"My appointment means local supporters will now have a dedicated contact for support and advice."

Cancer causes one in seven of all deaths in the world. Each year nearly 10 million people in the world are diagnosed with cancer and 6.2 million people die from it.

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to research on the causes, treatment and prevention of cancer.

Mrs Medcalf added: "Cancer Research UK supports more than 3,000 doctors, nurses and scientists, but we rely almost entirely on donations to continue our groundbreaking work. That's where I come in. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who'd like to help us in our efforts to cure cancer faster."
