WOODRUSH RFC players are still in wonderland after their historic league win against promotion hopefuls Kings Norton and now coach Matt Elwell believes his team of underdogs has got what it takes in the North Midlands One.

As all the clubs took a deserved break from league action this weekend, Woodrush were invited to Five Ways Old Edwardians and stretched their run of games unbeaten with a 13 point victory.

Team coach Matt Elwell, who took over his role at the start of the season, played down his involvement as part of the teams success even after guiding Woodrush to five wins out of the last six.

He said: "It's been about five years since Woodrush last beat Kings Norton so that was a great achievement for this club.

"Fair play to Woodrush, they could have capitulated at the end of last season but they did the complete opposite and invested in a new coach, players and equipment and just said get on with it - and we have to a point."

Despite all the clubs' success recently Elwell said his team put in a poor performance in their friendly clash.

"On Saturday we underestimated the opposition but still won and to play badly and win has to be a good sign," said Elwell.

"We didn't perform to how we know we can but you have to keep positive and we did score four tries with Ed Lerner again getting points," he added.

Woodrush will be hoping to continue their new found form against Stourbridge Lions at home on Saturday (KO 2pm).

Woodrush seconds got another victory under their belts after beating Five Ways seconds 7-0.
